Hot Cuban Salsa
Cuban Son is one of the original dances that went into the mix when Salsa was created. And it's not just the steps that count here. The music associated with Salsa tends to have a more pop feel than Cuban Son. The Cuban Son is generally danced to acoustic instruments found in the Oriente province in the east of Cuba.
Unlike older African influenced dance styles Son starts with a formal, upright embrace by the two dancers. These dancers use expertly timed flicks of their hips, shoulders and torsos to create discord between the six count rhythms of their feet. The whole dance is contratempo and our flirtatious couple move on the half beat before one, creating a slow-quick-quick, slow-quick-quick pattern.
